Many of the new timepieces from 88 Rue du Rhone, the brand started by the grandsons of the late watchmaker Raymond Weil, reflect the brand’s focus going forward on aligning its marketing with the film industry.
Among the introductions from the brand at the 2014 Baselworld show were the “Marilyn,” a ladies’ watch designed as a nod to blonde screen bombshell Marilyn Monroe; “A Lady to Love,” a woman’s timepiece named for the 1930 film starring actress Vilma Bánky; and “Frankie Blue Eyes,” a men’s watch named as a tribute to Frank Sinatra.
88 Rue du Rhone also introduced two watches that benefit cancer-fighting causes and a limited-edition model designed to mark the World Cup, which will take place this summer in Brazil.
