Late philanthropist’s jewels go to auction
The Estate of Rita Dee Hassenfeld, who was married to Harold Hassenfeld of Hasbro Industries, includes signed pieces from Cartier, Harry Winston and Belperron.
The auction will offer the Estate of Rita Dee Hassenfeld, who was an accomplished ballerina in her youth and married the late Harold Irwin Hassenfeld of Hasbro Industries, which manufacture games including Monopoly, Mr. Potato Head, Nerf and Play-Doh.
Hassenfeld, who died on Jan. 3, was later known as a philanthropist and humanitarian, and the Sept. 16 sale of her jewelry will offer about 250 lots of “unerring taste characterized by elegance, color and a sense of whimsy,” according to Leslie Hindman Auctioneers, presenters of the sale.
Included in the lots are signed pieces from Cartier, Van Cleef & Arpels, Belperron, David Webb, Harry Winston and Seaman Schepps. Among them are a platinum and diamond ring by Harry Winston, which could sell for as much as $425,000, and a pair of platinum, diamond and cultured pearl ear clips by Van Cleef & Arpels, with a high estimate of $70,000.
A complete list of lots can be found here.
The sale of Hassenfeld’s jewelry will be followed by Leslie Hindman Auctioneers’ regularly scheduled Important Jewelry auction on Sept. 17, which will offer more than 1,000 lots. Additional information is available on the auction house’s website.
