GIA’s iD100 Can Now Screen Pink Diamonds
An additional update allows the gem testing device to also screen blue-to-green and brown diamonds.
Carlsbad, Calif.—The Gemological Institute of America’s iD100 gem testing device can now screen pink diamonds following a software upgrade released last week.
The upgrade, which costs $249, allows the device to distinguish natural pink diamonds from laboratory-grown diamonds, both HPHT and CVD, and diamond simulants.
In addition, GIA released a separate, free update that allows the device to screen blue-to-green and brown diamonds.
Tom Moses, GIA executive vice president and chief laboratory and research officer, said the expanded capabilities of the iD100 is “part of our mission to ensure the public trust in gems and jewelry.”

The free update will need to be done before installing the pink diamond software upgrade.
The new software can be purchased via GIA’s online store as a download for current iD100 owners; it will be pre-installed for those ordering new iD100 devices.
Anthony Brown, GIA director of instruments operations, said GIA expects to fulfill orders within two business days.
