SRK founder recognized for lifetime achievements
Govind Dholakia, founder and chairman of Shree Ramkrishna Exports, has won the 2014 lifetime achievement award presented by Retail Jeweller India for his contributions to the diamond industry over the last 50 years.
Mumbai--Govind Dholakia, founder and chairman of Shree Ramkrishna Exports, has won the 2014 lifetime achievement award presented by Retail Jeweller India for his contributions to the diamond industry over the last 50 years.
He received the award from the magazine at a recently held ceremony in India, where the crowd gave him a standing ovation following his speech.
Dholakia started working as a diamond cutter at the age of 13 in 1964. He founded S.R.K seven years later, and it is now is one of the largest and most renowned privately owned diamond companies in the industry. He was recognized for not only building a successful company but also for setting a benchmark for his peers and young entrepreneurs in the diamond industry to follow.
“This is a great moment for SRK Exports,” his son, Shreyans Dholakia, said at the awards ceremony. “I have always seen my father as an extraordinary range of talent and experience with a united commitment to drive the company to unprecedented levels of accomplishment. We could not be in better hands. He is a visionary and pioneer.”
In addition to his professional achievements, Dholakia is a philanthropist who contributes to causes in the region where he has spent most of his career, Surat. When celebrating his 50 years in the diamond industry he gave the city of Surat the “S.R.K. Knowledge Foundation,” an educational center focusing on diamonds that is spread across acres of land.
Dholakia also is associated with a number of various other charities.
