Scott Kay Partners With FIT Again for Design Contest
Second-year jewelry design students designed a three-piece men’s jewelry set this fall to honor the brand’s founding designer.
New York--Scott Kay and the Fashion Institute of Technology are partnering for the second year in a row to hold a contest for jewelry design students to honor the brand’s founding designer.
During the fall semester, second-year students designed a three-piece men’s jewelry set from four options--a ring, bracelet, necklace or cufflinks--for Scott Kay under the supervision of FIT Jewelry Design faculty member Alison Nagasue and Coordinator of Student Contests Alex Nazarov.
The students presented technical drawings, measurement details, materials, color options and mood boards detailing their inspiration for the first round of judging.
The judging panel is comprised of executive members of the Scott Kay team, as well as Nina Bruno, buyer of men’s jewelry at Macy’s; Victoria Gomelsky, editor-in-chief of JCK magazine; and Robert Quick, associate editor at Essential Homme Magazine.
Judging was based on overall design, originality and creativity.
In late January, Scott Kay will host an intimate dinner for the five finalists, at which time the students will present their final drawings to the judging panel and the winner will be announced.
The top winner will receive $3,000, the second and third runners-up will each receive $1,000, and fourth and fifth runners-up will each receive $500. All five finalists will be featured on Scott Kay’s website.
“Working with the students on the design contest continues to be a great way to celebrate the spirit of Scott Kay,” Brand Director Kolleen Meeker said.
“Every Scott Kay design has a meaning and a story behind it, so it has been very exciting to see the students bring their own inspirations to life. The students are interfacing with various Scott Kay team members from Product Development to Merchandising, giving them a firsthand look into the total design process.”
