Gem Gossip Wants to Pay It Forward with ‘Jewelry Jobs’
Blogger Danielle Miele has created an Instagram account dedicated to sharing job vacancies in the industry.
New York—Though today Gem Gossip is jewelry’s most well-known blog, founder Danielle Miele began it a decade ago without any industry connections. Now, she’s started a project to help set fellow jewelry lovers on a path to realizing their own career dreams.
Last week, Miele launched Jewelry Jobs, an Instagram account that posts industry job openings.
To advertise job vacancies, jewelry businesses need simply send a direct message to the Jewelry Jobs account stating the company, store or designer hiring; the location; and the open position. Interested applicants will contact the hiring company directly and the company will then inform Jewelry Jobs when the position is filled, so that all job listings on the account are current.
“I love what I do but sometimes I can get critical and wonder, how is this making a positive impact on this world? This project goes deeper because I have the potential to change someone's life.” – Danielle MieleMiele has launched the service completely free of charge.
“Doing something like this on Instagram, a platform that people are constantly looking at already (especially millennials who probably prefer to job hunt on Instagram), just made sense to me,” Miele told National Jeweler.
“I think it will open up employers to a whole new level of candidates and hopefully make the vacancies fill up quicker.”
Within just a few days of starting the account, Jewelry Jobs featured 22 available positions from companies such as Catbird, Wwake and Twist’s Seattle store.
Without any monetary incentive involved with the venture, Miele explained that she’s using her time to operate it in an effort to create a positive impact.
“I'm always searching for ways to connect with my followers,” she explained. “I've always wanted whatever I do to have a lasting impact and change people's lives for the better. I love what I do but sometimes I can get critical and wonder, how is this making a positive impact on this world?
“This project goes deeper because I have the potential to change someone's life, to make job hunting a little less stressful, to make someone's dream of working in the jewelry industry come true, and to connect employers with passionate people.”
