New York--The Gemological Institute of America has announced the start of its scholarship application acceptance period for programs of study beginning in 2017.

In total, $2 million in scholarship funds will be available to students, funded by both the GIA’s endowment and private donors, including Mikimoto, Rio Grande and Tiffany & Co.

Scholarships are available for both on-campus and e-learning courses across the GIA’s gemology, jewelry and design disciplines, including both courses and lab classes.

Several scholarships are specifically applicable to U.S. students, while others are for international students.

Since 2013, approximately 1,150 students have received more than $5.5 million in scholarships from the GIA.

Applications will be accepted through Sept. 30.
