ASA, GIA to Offer Jewelry Appraisal Classes in California
“Jewelry Forensics for Appraisers” and “Appraising Gems and Jewelry for Insurance Coverage” will be held in May.
Reston, Va.--The American Society of Appraisers and the Gemological Institute of America are offering two jewelry appraisal classes at the latter’s Carlsbad, California campus this spring.
On May 7-8, the two will hold “Jewelry Forensics for Appraisers,” and from May 9-10, they will offer “Appraising Gems and Jewelry for Insurance Coverage.”
These courses will introduce aspiring appraisers and other professionals like insurance underwriters/adjustors and gemology students to current jewelry appraisal terminology, the methods and standards professional jewelry appraisers use to analyze and assess the quality of jewelry to establish value and how to prepare gem and jewelry appraisal reports for insurance coverage.
Attending the courses will allow students to be able to do the following, the organizations said.
--Better analyze and assess the quality of jewelry to establish value;
--Identify common manufacturing methods;
--Understand GIA’s quality assurance benchmarks;
--Understand theories and methodologies relevant to gem and jewelry appraisals for insurance coverage or estate transfers;
--Understand basic concepts and vocabulary relating to gem and jewelry appraising for insurance coverage or estate transfers;
--Understand how jewelry is described and documented following ASA’s gems and jewelry descriptive elements;
--Evaluate markets and market levels, and their relevance to the appraisal assignment and the subject property; and
--Better interpret a professional jewelry appraisal report to help schedule insurance coverage or estate planning that complies with the Uniform Standards of Professional Appraisal Practice.
Lectures will be provided by ASA gem and jewelry appraisers and GIA instructors.
Course registration is $1,350 for “Jewelry Forensics for Appraisers” and $1,095 for “Appraising Gems and Jewelry for Insurance Coverage.”
