Alrosa Announces Auction Schedule, Will Re-Open NY Office
The auctions are for the sale of rough diamonds weighing more than 10.8 carats.
Moscow--Alrosa has announced that it plans to hold 30 international auctions for the sale of rough diamonds weighing more than 10.8 carats in 2018.
Five auctions will be held in the first quarter, 10 in the second, six in the third and nine in the final quarter of the year.
Two of these auctions are scheduled to take place in New York (in May and October), where the diamond miner’s trade office will resume full-scale operation.
According to a company spokesperson, Alrosa’s New York office (Arcos USA) has been closed since 2016 due to “organizational reasons.”
Arcos USA will resume operations early this year, with the company noting that as the United States is the world’s largest consumer of polished diamonds, it sees great potential for prospective clients here.
The bulk of Alrosa’s 2018 large stone auctions will take place in Moscow. The company also will hold auctions in Vladivostok, as well as Antwerp, Dubai, Ramat Gan and Hong Kong.
Alrosa said according to Russian laws, rough diamonds weighing more than 10.8 carats can be sold only at auction. Between 60 and 100 companies from different countries generally take part in these auctions.
Preliminary figures indicate that Alrosa sold approximately 153,000 carats worth of rough diamonds valued at almost $365 million at international auctions in 2017.
