11 Pieces in Pantone’s Colors of the Year
Pantone has named Rose Quartz and Serenity as the 2016 Colors of the Year, marking the first time the color institute has chosen two hues.

Carlstadt, N.J.--Pantone announced this week that the Colors of the Year for 2016 are Serenity and Rose Quartz, marking the first time the company has chosen two shades for the annual designation.
Pantone said the “harmonious pairing” of the two shades was a prevalent combination on September’s fashion week runways, one of the main channels from which the color authority pulls its bi-annual Fashion Color Reports.
Serenity and Rose Quartz also are included in Pantone’s Fashion Color Report for spring 2016, along with eight additional hues that make up “a palette that is first and foremost calming … Paying homage to the beauty of natural resources.”
Pantone said in its announcement that the colors of the year work easily with other mid-tone shades, among them cooler greens and purples. The company also said variations of Serenity and Rose Quartz will be seen in a variety of textures that will make them wearable throughout the year.
In addition, Pantone Executive Director Leatrice Eiseman said the combination challenges traditional perceptions around color association.
“In many parts of the world we are experiencing a gender blur as it relates to fashion, which in turn has impacted color trends throughout all other areas of design,” she said. “This more unilateral approach to color is coinciding with societal movements toward gender equality and fluidity, the consumers’ increased comfort with using color as a form of expression, which includes a generation that has less concern about being typecast or judged, and an open exchange of digital information that has opened our eyes to different approaches to color usage.”
