Second Jewelry Industry Summit Planned for Tucson
The next open forum on sustainability and responsible sourcing is scheduled for Jan. 29 and 30 at the Tucson Convention Center.
New York--The Jewelry Industry Summit, created to address sustainability and responsible sourcing, has set its second meeting for Jan. 29 and 30 at the Tucson Convention Center.
The American Gem Trade Association will serve as the official host of the second event.
According to event organizers, it will pick up where the first, held in March in New York, left off.
That event wrapped up having created a list of projects various attendees would see to after the summit, including aligning and coordinating various existing standards, researching consumer attitudes, educating sales associates and relaying the industry accomplishments to the public.
It also concluded with a commitment to address supply chain issues such as assisting gem cutters in developing countries who need education and equipment to avoid silicosis, a disease that occurs from inhaling stone dust.
Rather than a lineup of speakers, the event again will focus on attendee participation, serving as an interactive meeting with large and small discussion groups assisted by professional facilitators.
The Jewelry Industry Summit is funded by donor companies and individuals, as well as by the registration fees.
Cost to attend this year is $275, which includes a reception on the evening of Jan. 29, coffee breaks and lunches. It also includes a free registration for the AGTA GemFair, which runs from Jan. 31 to Feb. 5.
