November birthstone baubles
Citrine and topaz are the birthstones for November babies. Here are 10 pieces of jewelry centered on these two colored gemstones.
November marks the second in a series of months that have multiple birthstones, but topaz and citrine were linked long before they became the birthstones for the 11th month of the year.
According to the GIA, in the days before modern gemology allowed for the identification of each stone, the tawny color of citrine caused it to be confused with the brownish-orange shades of topaz even though citrine is part of a different family--it's a quartz variety.
Citrine now can provide an affordable and durable option for those looking to find yellow-to-orange gems, including in place of the stone with which it was confused so long ago.
Aside from that, what I like about the fact that topaz and citrine are paired together in the same month is that the orange of the citrine and the popular blue shades of topaz in today’s market are on opposite sides of the color wheel. This means November babies have the opportunity two wear both at once with a great color-blocking opportunity.
The topaz gemstone is thought to bring prosperity to the wearer, as well as dispel sadness, anger and nocturnal fears, while the citrine has been valued for its ability to bring awareness. I don’t think anybody would say no to a little more of both.
