DeYoung’s Aster Dye Dies at 73
The jeweler, who worked nearly 60 years in the industry, was known for his knowledge, ethics and warmth.
Brockton, Mass.--Jeweler Aster J. Dye died Dec. 23 at the Good Samaritan Medical Center in Brockton, Massachusetts. He was 73.
Dye was born Nov. 20, 1943 in London to Harry Aster Dye and Eileen (née Cullen) Dye.
He was raised in Boston and settled in Brockton as an adult.
He was renowned for his vast industry expertise and loved for his warmth and wit. He had a devoted customer following and was a resource for other jewelers across the country.
When Dye retired from DeYoung, he founded his own company, A.J. Dye Inc., in Brockton.
Dye is survived by his wife, Mary Ann (née Strength) Dye, and four sons: Daniel and his wife Marcy; Michael; Brian and his wife Dawn Marie; and Dennis and his wife Roula.
He is survived by eight grandchildren: Caitlin, Jared, Courtney, Jordan, Tyler, Christina, Dennis and Connor. He is also survived by his sister Geraldine Wilson and her husband Stephen, as well as his brother-in-law, Robert Dow, and several nieces, nephews, family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his sister Eileen Dow and brother Daniel Dye.
Dye loved animals and time spent in nature, particularly occasions spent with his family in Vermont.
