Jewelry of ‘The Hunger Games’
Designer Claudio Pino made several of the rings featured in the popular franchise’s second film.
One of the most visually interesting aspects of the movies--of which I am a huge fan, in addition to the books--is the way they outfit and style the characters that live in the Capital, where citizens are known for their particular brand of fashion.
Luckily for me, an overlap in interests has allowed for an opportunity to explore some of the jewelry featured in the movie.
The film’s costume director, Trish Summerville, chose several of designer Claudio Pino’s pieces for the movie.
Pino, a Chilean native and Quebec resident, creates sculptural and kinetic rings primarily for men, and works in precious and semi-precious metals, including gold, silver, and platinum, as well as diamonds, rubies, pearls, emeralds, moonstones, amethyst and onyx, among others.
Two of his rings, one from the Black Velvet collection and one from the Kinetics collection, were selected for Stanley Tucci’s character, Caesar Flickerman.
“For these designs, I was inspired by old navigational instruments. Interactive Mirror proposes a third eye with its kinetic mirror that rotates 360 degrees in four directions thanks to a carefully designed and complex mechanism,” Pino said.
“The kinetic aspect of this design enhances continuous shifting light along with an interplay of colors, shadow and depth while creating a direct physical interaction with the wearer.”
A ring from the Black Velvet collection also was selected for Lenny Kravitz’s character, Cinna.
“The Hunger Games story by Suzanne Collins is such a big hit and the movie pushes forward creativity, bringing together so many artists in different fields,” Pino said. “On my side, it's a dream accomplished and at the same time, a new horizon for my sculptural rings.”
Check out images of the rings below, and then head over to see them on the big screen this weekend.
