Piece of the Week: The ‘Lingerie’ Brooch from Nikos Koulis
Emerald is the birthstone for the month of May and emeralds and Nikos Koulis go together like peanut butter and jelly.
New York--If it’s wrong to worship emeralds, then we at National Jeweler don’t want to be right.
Those born this month are fortunate to claim the gem as their birthstone, but we wouldn’t dream of letting May babies have all the fun--emeralds possess a special ability to flatter any skin tone or hair color they come across, making them a definite crowd-pleaser.
While the stone brings out the best in their wearer, designer extraordinaire Nikos Koulis knows how to bring out the best in the stone.
In his newest collection, “Lingerie,” which will be on view at the Couture show in June, Koulis mixed graphic, triangular design elements with a special focus on silver-colored pearls, and was sure to incorporate emeralds into a few select, breathtaking styles.
A 3.5-carat Asscher-cut emerald is the centerpiece of this Koulis brooch, which is our Piece of the Week.
Flanked by silver pearls, the brooch features 0.6-carats of trillion-cut white diamonds and 0.73-carats of round white diamonds, all set in 18-karat white gold.
It retails for $55,000 at Bergdorf Goodman in New York, where Koulis recently celebrated “Lingerie” with a trunk show.
