Diamond Supplier SRK Pledges 750 Solar-Power Rooftops
The charitable mission is in honor of India’s 75 years of independence.

On Monday, Aug. 15, SRE’s philanthropic arm, called SRK Knowledge Foundation, pledged the installation of 750 solar-power rooftops on homes across India.
A celebration was held to commemorate the charitable endeavor, with Commandant Chetan Kumar Cheetah of the Central Reserve Police Force in attendance.
Specifically, the solar panels will be installed at homes of families of soldiers who have died while serving their countries and other “unsung heroes” the organization said.
SRK estimates the solar power will impact 3,000 people. It will save each home approximately $25 per month for the next 25 years.
The company said it was inspired by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s “Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav” initiative in honor of the independence anniversary, which encourages citizens and companies to celebrate its heroes and give back.
It is also in line with the SRK Knowledge Foundation’s sustainable development goals, it said.
SRK Founder and Chairman Govind Dholakia said, “Our unsung heroes are doing so much for us. We should take inspiration from them to always contribute to the development and growth of our nation. As responsible citizens of India, we, the SRK Family, thought of what we should do for our unsung heroes that could benefit them for a lifetime and came up with the idea of providing solar energy to their homes.”
The SRK Knowledge Foundation has previously honored the military at special events.
In March, Dholakia announced SRK’s intentions to install solar panel roofing at every home in Dudhala in Gujarat’s Amreli district, making it a green village.
Since its inception six decades ago, SRK says it has supported more than 3 million people through educational scholarships and medical support.
