Piece of the Week: Wendy Yue’s Coral Cuff
Some designers favor coral—Pantone’s pick for the color to watch in 2019—whether or not it’s on trend.
As hard stones good for inlay like lapis lazuli, malachite and labradorite grow in popularity in jewelry design, coral is a natural pick for what could be the next hot material popping up in cocktail rings and statement earrings.
At least, Pantone thinks so, calling its “Living Coral” shade its color of the year for 2019.
But some designers have always had a way with the gemstone, whether it’s on trend or not. Wendy Yue is one of them.
In this Piece of the Week cuff, Yue makes carved coral feel modern and magical with its intricate 18-karat gold, multicolor sapphire, diamond, emerald and ruby design.
Retailing for $95,000, the cuff is available through WendyYue.com.
Editor's note: This story was corrected post-publication to clarify that the Wendy Yue piece is a cuff and to update its price.
