JA Launches Another Consumer Sweepstakes
Jewelers of America is giving away ammolite jewelry to raise awareness about the multi-colored gemstone.
New York--Jewelers of America is continuing the consumer sweepstakes series it started in August with a giveaway of ammolite jewelry.
Timed with the introduction of Korite’s “Ammolite by Korite Jewelry Collection,” it will run from Nov. 14 to Dec. 2 on Jewelers.org.
The prizes in “The Amazing Ammolite Jewelry Sweepstakes” are three ammolite pendant and earring sets from Korite, which is a JA supplier member. Winners will be chosen at random.
Director of Marketing and Communications Molly Fallon said that the association opted to do an ammolite giveaway due to the success of the “Spectacular Spinel Sweepstakes,” in which the organization gave away a pair of earrings to raise consumer awareness about spinel being a new birthstone for August.
She said the ammolite sweepstakes will “capitalize on consumers’ love of gemstones and educate them about lesser-known gemstones such as ammolite.”
Described by the Gemological Institute of America as the “fashionable fossil,” ammolites are the fossilized remains of two species of ammonites, prehistoric squid-like creatures that became extinct about 66 million years ago.
Ammolite, which the World Jewellery Confederation (CIBJO) awarded official gem status to in 1981, is not a hard stone (3.5 on the Mohs scale), and because it comes in thin sheets is almost always set as a doublet or triplet, according to the GIA.
JA said it will promote the sweepstakes nationwide through a public relations and marketing campaign and will offer free marketing content to JA members, including email templates, images and graphics for use on social media. The promotion of the sweepstakes will include messaging to consumers about shopping at their local JA jeweler.
