Jewelry Television launches design contest
Called “Rock Star Design,” it will include a reality show-style competition for the finalists that will air on the Knoxville-based network’s website.
Knoxville, Tenn.--Jewelry Television is looking to discover new designers, and has put out the call via a new contest that is open to the public.
Called the “Rock Star Design” contest, JTV is asking participants to submit photos of finished jewelry they have designed that represents their unique style, along with a headshot and video message explaining why they should be JTV’s first Rock Star Designer.
The winner will receive a $5,000 cash prize, one-on-one mentoring with JTV’s international buyers, introductions to industry manufacturers, a segment on JTV featuring their own jewelry collection and, by association, exposure to 85 million households.
Entry is open until April 30 on the JTV website.
A panel of judges will choose 100 entrants, whose pieces will be posted on the JTV website for public viewing and voting that will narrow the group down to 10 semi-finalists.
The panel then will narrow those 10 down to five finalists, who will be notified on May 29 and receive an all-expenses paid trip to JTV headquarters in Knoxville to compete in a reality show-style segment where they will be filmed as they work their way through four unique design challenges.
One finalists will be eliminated after each challenge until a winner emerges. The episodes will air on JTV.com/Rockstar and be promoted on the network.
Entrants must be at least 21 years old and available for the challenge filming dates. A complete list of rules and details can be found on the JTV website.
“We know there are many talented jewelry designers just waiting to be discovered and given their first big break,” said Jill Johnson, vice president of marketing at JTV. “We decided to use our international platform to offer exposure for contestants, as well as an opportunity to help one lucky winner get started in the jewelry industry.”
