When It Comes to Security, Trust Your Instincts

This is just one of the tips John Kennedy and Greg Smith shared on the new episode of “My Next Question.” Watch it now.

It’s almost the most wonderful—and the busiest—time of the year and, for many jewelers, 2021 could see them welcoming customers back into their stores in numbers not seen since 2019.

So, what should they keep in mind from a security standpoint?

Jewelers’ Security Alliance President John J. Kennedy and Berkley Asset Protection co-founder and Executive Vice President Greg Smith joined Editor-in-Chief Michelle Graff earlier this week on “My Next Question” to discuss store and event security ahead of the holiday season.

During the hour-long session, Smith and Kennedy talked about the importance of trusting your gut, how to handle masked customers, code words, and why too many holiday decorations in the window can present a security threat.

Watch “Soon It Will Be … the Busy Season,” the latest episode in National Jeweler’s “My Next Question” webinar series, above or on the National Jeweler YouTube channel.

And please join us again on Tuesday, Dec. 7 at 2 p.m. Eastern when Senior Editor, Fashion, Ashley Davis interviews author and fine jewelry expert Joanna Hardy about “Sapphire,” the latest, and final, book in her colored gemstone trilogy.
