Longtime Industry Editor Rob Bates Releases Second Mystery Book
Journalist-turned-amateur-sleuth Mimi Rosen is back in “Murder is Not a Girl’s Best Friend,” which will be released on Feb. 8.
Longtime industry writer Rob Bates has written a second murder mystery novel, set to be released on Feb. 8.
New York—Longtime industry journalist and JCKOnline News Director Rob Bates is back with another book.
His latest mystery novel again centers on journalist-turned-amateur-sleuth Mimi Rosen, introduced in the first book in Bates’ series, “A Murder is Forever.”
In the second installment, called “Murder is Not a Girl’s Best Friend,” Rosen and her father Max are back for another murder mystery involving New York City’s Diamond District.
This time, a reverend from Africa has discovered a $20 million diamond he hopes will “free his continent from the scourge of blood diamonds,” the book description from Camel Press reads.
But when the diamond is stolen, leading to a series of murders, Rosen discovers that both the diamond and the reverend have a bad hidden past.
She begins untangling the secrets through investigations involving a shady billionaire, a corrupt politician, Africa’s diamond fields, offshore companies, an activist, a filmmaker, a computer whiz, and a police detective to find out what the real story behind the diamond is, all while wondering if she could be its next victim.

Bates has written about the diamond industry for more than 25 years, winning 12 editorial awards, including the Gem Award for Media Excellence in 2016.
He is also a comedy writer and performer, whose work has appeared on Saturday Night Live’s Weekend Update segment, Comedy Central’s website, and McSweeney’s.
His new book will be released Feb. 8 and is available to pre-order now via Amazon, IndieBound, Target, Barnes & Noble, and Bookshop.org.
