The men are allegedly responsible for stealing millions in jewelry and other valuables in 43 burglaries in 25 towns across Massachusetts.
Jeweler gains exposure asking residents to shred
One jeweler found a way to get more than 150 cars to pull into her parking lot one Saturday, when he invited area residents to come shred their private documents for free.
On April 26, the owners of Peter & Co. Jewelers in Avon Lake co-sponsored a document-shredding event in their parking lot.
Area residents were invited to “protect their identity” by having up to three boxes of private papers shredded on-site and in their presence for free.
More than 155 vehicles pulled up in the span of three hours, carrying residents not only from Avon Lake, but surrounding communities as well, bringing a fresh clientele to the jeweler’s parking lot.
Visitors that came to shred documents remarked at the ease in which they drove in and had help depositing their boxes, and one man took a Peter & Co. Jewelers business card to take home to his wife, showing that a free promotion can lead to positive exposure.
“If we hadn’t set it up properly, we could have left a bad impression with potential customers,” Peter & Co. Jewelers owner Theresia Oreskovic said. “Promotions like this can’t just be thrown together. Not if you want people to come back next time, to shop.”
