AGA Opens Entry Period for Bonanno Award Nominations
The award celebrates individuals who have made major contributions to the gemological field.
AGA is accepting nominations for the Bonanno Award from now through July 15.
San Diego— The Accredited Gemologists Association (AGA) is now accepting nominations for the 2023 Antonio C. Bonanno Excellence in Gemology Award.
The award recognizes individuals for their contributions to the field of gemology in one or more of the following areas: research, education, equipment and technology, sustainability and ethics, and related specialties.
Nominations are open to the international gem trade, and AGA membership is not required to submit a nomination or be nominated.
The deadline to submit a nomination is July 15.
AGA said past recipients include leading research gemologists from world-renowned laboratories, educators, market analysts, and developers of innovative equipment and software solutions for the gemological field.
Submissions can be made through the nomination form on AGA’s website.

AGA’s Bonanno Committee reviews the nominations, and AGA members vote to select the winner.
AGA plans to announce the winner in December.
The recipient will be honored at the organization’s annual gala following the AGA Gemological Conference in Tucson, Arizona in early 2024, and presented with a specially commissioned bronze plaque and medallion along with a $2,000 check.
Last year’s recipient was Gary Roskin.
The Bonanno Award was established in 2000 to recognize those making significant contributions to gemology and to pay homage to the legacy of Antonio C. Bonanno, a pivotal force in the formation of the AGA.
