Bonhams kicks off ‘Jewelry in June’
This month, the auction house is providing complimentary jewelry appraisals in the United States and Canada for clients who are interested in consigning items to auction.
New York--Throughout June, Bonhams is conducting complimentary jewelry appraisals for clients across the United States and Canada who might be interested in consigning items to auction.
Millions of dollars’ worth of earrings, necklaces, bracelets and other pieces are set aside and forgotten due to changing tastes, without owners knowing what they might be worth, the auction house said. So Bonhams values hundreds of pieces every year through its “Jewelry in June” campaign.
Notable finds during Jewelry in June include a $2.6 million rare, loose diamond discovered at the bottom of a safe deposit box in a bank in Canada, and a $317,000 gem-set, diamond and enamel 1925 Cartier brooch hidden away in a closet in San Francisco.
Susan Abeles, U.S. head of jewelry at Bonhams, said that the current market conditions for signed estate pieces, colored gemstones, fine colored diamonds and natural pearls is very strong right now.
She added that jewelry prices have been on the rise in recent years as investors turn to more tangible commodities like diamonds, gemstones and collectible pieces.
In addition to inviting the public to bring their pieces and family heirlooms to have them valued confidentially and without obligation, the jewelry specialists at Bonhams also can advise a client on the best location to sell their items and how to achieve the best prices.
