Garnet, January’s birthstone, doesn’t carry as much cache as say, April’s diamond or May’s emerald, but certain varieties boast an underappreciated beauty.

Santa Monica, California-based Kassandra Nicholson, an up-and-coming indie talent who launched her brand roughly three years ago, proves as much with her “moi et toi”-style “Friendship” ring.

The 14-karat rose gold bypass ring features an alluring 0.54-carat cushion-cut demantoid garnet paired with a 0.52-carat old-mine cut diamond. It’s an unusual stone combination that feels unique to its creator. If one were to gift the “Friendship” ring, they would be quite the friend indeed.

Priced at $4,190, it’s available on Nicholson’s website.
