Authorities Seeking Suspect in Series of Grab-and-Runs
The Jewelers Security Alliance said the man has snatched expensive watches from four stores in North and South Carolina.
New York—The Jewelers Security Alliance recently issued an alert about a suspect who is snatching expensive watches from stores in the Southeast.
According to the JSA, the first incident involving this grab-and-run suspect occurred Sept. 5 at a mall jewelry store in Charlotte, North Carolina.
The man came into the store around 12:56 p.m. and was only in there for about two minutes before running with a high-end watch. The JSA said he did not put the watch on his wrist but just ran with it in his hand.
Two more incidences occurred in Concord, North Carolina—just northeast of Charlotte—on Sept. 12 and 27. In the second grab-and-run the JSA said the suspect entered the jewelry store at 2:04 p.m., went straight to a showcase that contained high-end watches and asked to try one on.
After returning the first watch he asked to see, the man allegedly tried on a second timepiece and then ran out of the store with it.
The fourth incident happened earlier this month, on Oct. 4 at a jewelry store in Columbia, South Carolina. He entered a mall store at 1:16 p.m., was shown a watch, put it on and ran out of the store, JSA said.
The suspect, pictured above in security camera stills from two different stores, is described as 45 to 50 years old, 5 feet 9 inches tall and 135 pounds. He is bald and has a tattoo on his right forearm in script.
