Feel-Good Friday: PA Jeweler Makes Her Netflix Debut
Cathy Calhoun is in “Amazing Interiors,” a new series about people who occupy unusual spaces.

Royersford, Pa.—Thinking about binge-watching some Netflix this weekend but feeling guilty about spending a summer weekend in front of the TV?
Turn on “Amazing Interiors” and just consider it research for work.
The series, available today on the streaming service, features people who live in spaces with unusual build-outs, and one of the dozen episodes profiles Pennsylvania jeweler Cathy Calhoun, who is no stranger to publicity for both her house and her store.
National Jeweler wrote about Netflix choosing Calhoun for the series last fall, shortly after the U.K-based crew that’s producing “Amazing Interiors” came to Pennsylvania to shoot.
Calhoun, the owner of Calhoun Jewelers, lives in a converted bank building that dates back to 1872 in the town of Spring City, Pennsylvania. She bought the building in 1990 and converted into a home over time, working around the bank’s features to carve out a unique living space.
In 2001, she decided she needed to move her jewelry store and couldn’t find a location she liked—until she drove by a standalone bank in the neighboring town of Royersford. She bought the building and started another conversion, this time creating a space suitable for a jewelry store.
Calhoun’s unusual home and store have garnered her press in the past.
They’ve been featured on CNN Money, “Great Escapes” on the Travel Channel, and two HGTV series, “If These Walls Could Talk” and “You Live in What?”
Never one to miss an opportunity for publicity, Calhoun said she plans to hold a screening of her episode of “Amazing Interiors” at the local Colonial Theatre. It is the same theater where she holds her annual Oscar party, which is always a hot ticket in the Philadelphia suburb where her store is located.
And she will be adding the Netflix show to the footage about her home and store that runs on a continuous loop on a flat-screen TV in her store.
“Amazing Interiors” is a Netflix original series totaling 12 episodes that are 30 minutes each, all of which are now available on the streaming service. Calhoun’s house is featured in episode eight.
London-based Barcroft Media produced the show. The company’s other projects include “Preposterous Pets” and “Bear About the House: Living With My Supersized Pet.”
