Hillary Clinton Gives a Shout-Out to Shinola
The Detroit-built watch brand also received a mention in Sunday night’s Democratic debate.
Detroit--Yet another Clinton is publicly praising Shinola.
Democratic president front-runner Hillary Clinton mentioned the Detroit-built watch brand by name Friday, as she unveiled her jobs plan in a speech at Detroit Manufacturing Systems, an auto parts supplier in the Motor City.
“Shinola has created more than 500 jobs,” Clinton said, “and they’ve cornered the market on watches for presidents. Both my husband and President Obama love their Shinolas.”
Former President Bill Clinton and President Barack Obama both own, and have publicly expressed their appreciation for, Shinola watches.
The candidate and former secretary of state’s Shinola mention came as she was running down a list of products currently being made in Michigan, including driverless cars, wind turbine towers and electric cars, and making a point about the importance of keeping jobs in America.
“Michigan proves every day that American workers are the best in the world. All they need is a fair chance on a fair playing field,” Clinton said.
Two days later, the watch brand received a second shout-out on the campaign trail, which Clinton and her rival, Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders, are both hitting hard ahead of the Michigan primary.
At the Democratic debate Sunday night, a Shinola employee got to ask Clinton a question about what she would do as president to keep jobs from going overseas.
The full 42-minute video of Clinton’s remarks at Detroit Manufacturing Systems is available on C-SPAN.org.
