IGI celebrates 15 years in business
The International Gemological Institute in India recently marked 15 years of operation as the country's first international lab.
Mumbai--The International Gemological Institute in India recently marked 15 years of operation as the country's first international lab.
Today, IGI India offers 10 gem testing labs across the country and continues to grow. Its New Delhi lab recently shifted operations to a larger, upgraded space in Karol Bagh, the central jewelry hub of the city.
The institute has provided structure and set standards for certification and the study of gemology in India for both retailers and consumers, the IGI said, and “has substantially contributed to the overall growth of India’s diamond and jewelry industry.”
“Fifteen years ago, most local manufacturers and traders did not believe there was a demand for certification. The Indian diamond industry was focused solely on manufacturing, with all business decisions being made in Antwerp, Tel Aviv or New York,” said IGI Co-CEO Roland Lorié.
“India has become the world’s foremost diamond center, and we are very proud to have been a significant part of this development,” he said.
