NYC exhibition to feature Verdura jewels
American jewelry brand Verdura will mark its 75th anniversary with a nearly three- month-long exhibition of more than 150 pieces created by the late jeweler Duke Fulco di Verdura.
“The Power of Style: Verdura at 75” will be open from Oct. 14 through Dec. 23 at 745 Fifth Ave. in New York, a new gallery space adjacent to the company’s flagship store.
The exhibition will feature more than 150 pieces of di Verdura’s original jewels and objets d’art, as well as a small selection of his gouache jewelry designs, archival materials, personal miniature paintings and rare period photographs.
Di Verdura began his career working with French fashion designer Coco Chanel in Paris, eventually migrating to the United States in 1934, opening a boutique in Hollywood to create jewelry for celebrities and socialites.
Ward Landrigan purchased the company in 1984, six years after di Verdura’s death, and remains the company’s chairman and CEO today along with President Nico Landrigan.
“For thirty years it’s been my dream to share Verdura’s genius with a wider audience and bring him the recognition he deserves,” Landrigan said. “I want people to know this amazing man, who he was and why his work changed everything. Collectors from around the world have readily agreed to lend is their private treasures for three months and many have shared their reminiscences of time spent with Verdura.”
The exhibition will be curated by Carolina and Reinaldo Herrera, longtime friends of di Verdura, along with their daughter Patricia Lansing.
“Fulco di Verdura understood how to create elegant, whimsical pieces, two elements now often found in harmony, and he achieved this with such ease,” Carolina Herrera said. “His jewelry is so beautiful and is an ongoing source of inspiration.”
